Small Group Discussion versus Traditional Lecture in Anatomy Teaching: A Cross-Sectional Study

Introduction: All educational institutions follow different types of teaching and learning methods to deliver knowledge the students. The conventional methodology is commonly used in many institutions. Small group discussion (SGD) aids improving basic skills required for every task i.e., communication skills. Enthusiastic participation help creating a dynamic lively environment progress participants. Aim: To evaluate effectiveness over traditional lectures assess perception students regarding SGD versus lectures. Materials Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted with MBBS Phase-I medical from November 2019 April 2020 Chirayu Medical College Hospital, Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh. About 150 were divided into 2 groups, B, 75 per group. Group-A (Roll Number 1 75) taken lecture, Group-B 76 150) SGD. Pre post multiple choice assessment performed. Perception both Groups B about Lecture by pre-validated questionnaire based on Likert’s scale. Crossover groups done second topic. Student’s t-test compare pre-test post-test results p<0.05 considered as statistically significant. Results: mean scores 55.8±4.51 (p-value=0.022). As 55 (88.7%) students, small session less stressful. total 59 (95.15%) agreed that interactive 58 (93.54%) said they had their active 61 (98.38%) developed interest. that, it helped retaining knowledge. 62 (99.9%) useful improvement skill among opinion good level session. Conclusion: involves develops retention It has been introduced new curriculum increase efficiency
